Students from Bangladesh are eligible for most of the world's major fully funded scholarships. The competition is strong, so the students who win usually apply early, match each award closely and prepare well for interviews.
Programs open to Bangladeshi citizens
- Commonwealth Scholarships (UK): master's and PhD; Bangladesh is an eligible country.
- Fulbright Foreign Student Program (USA): graduate study, run in Bangladesh through the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
- Chevening (UK): one-year master's for applicants with work experience.
- Australia Awards: master's study in Australia.
- MEXT (Japan) and Global Korea Scholarship: bachelor's to PhD, applied for through the embassy or a university.
- Erasmus Mundus (Europe) and DAAD (Germany): open to applicants from any country.
- Need-blind U.S. colleges for undergraduates: see full scholarships in the USA.
Eligibility lists change. Check each program's current list of eligible countries before you start.
Documents to prepare early
- Attested and translated transcripts and certificates (allow several weeks).
- An English test score, or a medium-of-instruction letter where accepted.
- A valid passport.
- References from teachers or employers who know your work.
- For sponsors: bank statements, income proof and tax documents.
Interviews: scholarship and visa
Most successful applicants face two interviews: the scholarship panel and the student visa. For the U.S., interviews take place at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka; see F-1 visa interview in Dhaka. Officers often start with your ties to Bangladesh, your family and your plans after graduation, so think through honest, specific answers.
Stamplio's mock officer starts where real ones often do, with your home ties and family, then moves on to funding and study plans. Try a practice interview
